Part Selection

In the past LVR has used several means for part and parameter selection. Some of these methods work automatically, and some require user input.

Examples include:

  • User input - In some way, the user provides input to the system. This could come from selecting an option on a touch screen, an onscreen list, keyboard input, or many other means. The basic principle is that the user makes the choice.
  • Serial input - The system receives serial (or some other form of) input from an outside source. This could come from the previous station on a production line, that is already aware of the current part in the system. The two stations communicate, letting the system know what part is approaching.
  • RFID tag - The system receives information from a Radio Frequency ID tag, which is put on each part for identification. The system reads the tag to get the relevant information.
  • Barcode reader - The system reads a barcode either on the part, or on a fixture associated with a specific type of part. The system checks its database of parts, looking for a match of the barcode, and finds the appropriate parameters. The barcode reader could be held by the operator or set in a fixed location.
  • Fixture input - The system receives information from the fixture itself. Each type of part has its own, unique fixture for holding it. Each fixture has a specific pin configuration, which the system recognizes, identifying the part loaded.
